Anormal p3d v6 size after last update ?

Hello,
After having updated v6 to 6.1.9.31599 I noticed a large increase of the p3dv6 folder size (of about 40 GB). Obviously all downloaded files were deleted (36 GB). Is this normal ? I noticed also there is now two folders with the same name (...Personal) in the apps list. The size of the first is 424 MB and the size of the second is 120 GB.

Hello,

Updating to the latest version shouldn't impact your install folder's size by a large amount. The install directory should be about 85 GB which matches the amounts of the personal, content, and scenery components in the apps list. The larger Personal component includes the three other components as well as the files needed for repairing installations which are always installed on the C drive.

Thank you for answering. I tried to add a screenshot showing the 2 folders with exactly the same name and very different size but I have not understood how to do. I guess this is a consequence of the problem. This is not normal. I'm sure you have an idea where this anomaly is coming from. Certainly the problem will disapear after un-installing,and re-installing the soft. Before doing this I would like to understand a little more about this problem.

A few months ago I found in the forum an idea to use the ORBX Libraries I purchased for P3Dv5. It was OK. I also installed some Carenado aircrafts without problem. The problem may come from these ORBX addons as I had to modify the add-onns.cfg file ?

I have not found how to modify a previous post. I add the screenshot with p3d apps sizes. The value given in C:/ is 87.9 GB. This is not coherent with values in the apps list.

I tried to send my screenshot by inserting an url from dropbox but it did not work. I have not understood yet why. Anyway what I got in apps list is quite similar of what you show:

Content 21.8 GB
Personal 424 MB
Personal 120 GB
Scenery 62.1 GB
SDK 330 MB

The v6 folder size is C:\Program Files is 87.9 GB. I don't understand the 120 GB, as I have a large decrease in the free space remaining in C (about 45 GB).

After the complete installation of the patch there are 468 GB free on C:\ (I deleted the 36 GB of downloaded files);
The size of v6 folder on C:\ is now 87.9 GB (it was 87.8 after the patch 6.0.36).
The questions are : where are the 513-468=45 GB missing and what about the 120 GB of Personal in apps list ?

There is a neat little app called spacesniffer. I find that very useful for hunting down lost disk space and see what is swallowing up the space.

I advise you to run it as administrator, as then it can look through the windows folders too.

The 120gb may include the 30gb or so of setup files that are stored on the HD somewhere... can't remember where...

My last P3D6 update was on 1-17-2024

So, I looked in the C:\ProgramData\Package Cache for the backup folders (date sorted screenshot).

If you open each folder you can see the files each contains.

If you check the Properties for the folders you can see the Size of each.

Normally these folders or the files they contain are not deleted or moved.
These backup folders/files are need in case a product restore is needed.

The idea of spacesniffer was a good one and I had a look on Package Cache with a lot of cab files and others from P3D. I deleted this extra content. Everything is OK now. Thank you very much for helping.
