Re: never ending issues with shadows

I think it's a well known problem that exist since sereval P3D versions and was never resolved. At some view angle(s), the cloud shadows will dissappear. So even if you set the weather to full overcast, if you look in a certain direction, you'll see the terrain (and plane) illuminated by the sun ins...

Re: A Fix For Frames with Smoke Effects

The smoke is a transparent object. If it kills the FPS so much, then I suppose you have the transparency antialiasing set to ON in your video card settings. There's nothing you can do, really. You can lower the power of the transparency AA to a lower setting, but you will still get a big FPS impact ...

Re: Relation between texture loading and external limiter ?

This is quite interesting.
On my computer, I get a lot of blurries when using the "unlimited" FPS setting. But the sim is also smoother. (my CPU is pretty outdated)
I will try to increase the MIN_FIBER... parameter to see if I can achieve a better balance.
Thanks for the explanations, Beau.

Re: Addon for airport traffic?

I also use MyTraffic 6 and I believe it includes some traffic for smaller airports as well, not only big ones.
Are you sure your AI settings for GA traffic are not disabled ?

Re: P3D 32 bit no longer sufficient

I could make a similar answer to you, Rob, we're not going anywhere here. To answer your points: 1- I'm not saying old code = bad code. I'm referring to the memory handling specifically. The original code, which was inherited by LM from FSX/ESP, was not clearing the memory correctly, leading (still ...

Re: P3D 32 bit no longer sufficient

Yes, I am a software engineer, and yes, I do know what it means to handle memory in the coding. And even though my only attempt to create a sim was just a small prototype I built during the unversity just to play around with Direct3D 6, I know very well how memory management works. And believe it or...

Re: Lets talk about clouds and FPS

Clouds will impact the FPS dramatically in just ONE case: if you use the SGSS antialiasing (Sparse Grid Super Sampling). And not only clouds, but also vapor and smoke effects... anything that produces huge semi-transparent textures on the screen. Disable the SGSS: the clouds and smokes are not FPS k...

Re: P3D 32 bit no longer sufficient

Yes, 64 bits won't prevent the OOMs, because the actual coding doesn't free the memory correctly. But this is not the point. The point is: if the current 32 bit architecture is using up all of the 3,2 MISERABLE gigabytes of memory in one to two hours for users with a lot of addons, then we can hope ...

Re: FLOATPLANES

As far as I know, all freeware floatplanes are compatible. And the Accusim Cub seems to work well. Duabe, I cant seem to get the A2A cub above 10-12 Knots in P3d v3 without turning off accusim. Are you doing something in particular with your settings? Sorry for my late reply. I had this problem in ...

Re: FPS behavior during and out of Pause

I'm not questioning the FPS difference between Pause and not Pause. It's more about the size of that difference in the major airports. Major airports buildings sure are more detailled than an autogen house, but it's still just ridiculous, with very low resolution textures and very low poly count. Sa...

Re: FPS behavior during and out of Pause

Well, any high density airport like JFK, LAX, SEA will give you a big fps hit simply due to the detail. Add-on airports with high density will do the same. Vic Sure, but what kind of detail exactely ? And why do these details impact the FPS only when the sim is unpaused ? Why do these details stop ...

Re: FPS behavior during and out of Pause

Not really. I fully understand what you have writen, and of course I'm well aware of the various processes which NEED to run to perform the sim tasks (AI engine, sound engine, physics engine, game engine etc...). Having a FPS difference between Pause and unPause is normal of course. My question is r...

Re: FPS behavior during and out of Pause

My settings in NVidia Inspector are close to default. I have simply forced the adaptive 1/2 refresh rate, and forced the transparency stuff to OFF. In the NVidia Control Panel, I have simply set the P3D profile texture filtering to "performance", and other usual settings like "prefer ...
